OUR TEAM

OUR STORY

We opened BGB CrossFit in 2014 because we wanted to provide the Fayette County Community with a Premier Health and Fitness experience. Each of us was drawn to CrossFit for a different reason, but we found the concept of training and the methodology to be universally applicable to all ages and demographics. It is our mission to help each client who walks through our doors achieve Optimal Health and improve their Fitness to levels they didn’t think were possible for them.

Through continued education and listening to the needs of our clients, we expanded our offerings outside of just training services to include functional nutrition, functional movement screening, and Massage Therapy Services. These additional services are what set us apart from other gyms in our area and what makes BGB CrossFit the premier holistic health and wellness facility for Fayette County.

Crossfit has been and continues to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I first discovered CrossFit in 2010. A few years prior I had suffered an injury that ended my track and field aspirations early on in college. The community helped me feel like an athlete again both physically and mentally. Crossfit taught me what the body can overcome given the correct training. This led me to pursue a career helping others overcome their own physical restrictions. Since then my goal as a coach and manual therapist has been to help people move better and feel better both in the gym and in daily life.

I have been doing Crossfit for 10 years. During that time I started out just working out trying to get in shape as I just turned 40 and was over weight.  After realizing how much Crossfit has changed my life I decided in 2017 to get my L1 and start coaching to give others the same experience that I had.

I have always been very athletic and played a lot of sports (Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Golf) pretty much my whole life. I enjoy being outdoors and just staying active as much as possible.

I have been with three different Crossfit Gyms over my 10 years and everyone of them was like family and being a part of a community. And that is the one thing Crossfit brings out of everyone, to make Crossfit the best fitness anyone can be a part of.

I’ve spent the majority of my life overweight and unhealthy. With the help of an amazing community, proper nutrition, and functional fitness training, I’ve been able to take back control of my life and health. Now it’s my mission to help others do the same.

Before Crossfit I was anything but fit or athletic. In fact, I hated anything to do with working out or going to the gym. Most of my life I battled eating disorders and yoyo dieting trying to maintain my weight in order to look good on stage as a professional entertainer. In 2014, at my heaviest, I was invited to participate in an onboarding bootcamp for a Crossfit gym. I was hesitant at first, thinking I just couldn’t do that at my age, but I decided to jump in and give it a try because I had nothing to lose but a lot of pounds. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. The camaraderie and class setting of Crossfit gave me the catalyst to keep going. And the Crossfit community opened its arms to me and made me feel welcome. Even if I couldn’t do all of the movements without scaling, or lift the heaviest weights, no one judged me for it. They just cheered me on or patted me on the back. I decided that I wanted to share my newfound love for fitness with others so I became a coach for the Fit Fast program at BGB. I love seeing the members getting stronger and healthier week by week. And I truly enjoy helping change peoples’ lives, the way Crossfit changed mine.

Coach

I started working out at Crossfit in January 2013. I had been faithful to exercise when I worked full time but found I wasn’t motivated after I retired. Crossfit was a whole new experience because I had never been much for working out in a group setting. Crossfit not only changed my work out habits but allowed me lose the excess weight I had carried around for years and to be more functionally fit in my late 50’s and early 60’s. I don’t plan to stop participating in Crossfit anytime soon!

In 2014, I started coaching the FitFast class made of people around my age. My goal, for this class is to help and encourage anyone in their 50’s and beyond to become functionally fit, gain muscle, expand their cardio resiliency and work on balance. The result you will see and feel is gaining back your health and fitness to be able to age gracefully but strong! The added bonus is the FitFast group camaraderie and the friends you will make within our community.

I started CrossFit in 2018 and got my coaching certification shortly after. As a former college athlete, CrossFit gives me a competitive environment that was lost after graduation. I love being in the gym and strive to get better everyday.

Rod Sylvester

Coach

My crossfit journey has done so much to promote my mental health and self esteem and I’m forever grateful for the very special friendships I’ve established through it.

It’s an honor to coach people and help them on their individual fitness journeys. It’s such a rewarding process to see people come in everyday and get better, stronger and more confident in themselves. the coaches of BGB have done an amazing job not only with programming, but creating a safe/diverse space where people of all walks of life and fitness levels feel welcome and it’s an honor to now be a part of that team as well.

I’ve lived in Fayetteville since I was 4 years old. Graduated from Whitewater High in ’09 then went off to play collegiate softball at ABAC and Armstrong State University. When I moved back home in 2014, a good friend invited me to come workout with her at her CrossFit gym and I’ve been addicted ever since. In 2017, I decided to take the addiction a step further and get my L1. I came to BGB for the fun and family like feel. As soon as you walk in these doors, you are greeted with smiles and pushed, by each coach and athlete, to be a better version of yourself each and everyday. If you don’t find me at the gym, you can always find me with my family at a Braves game or softball field! Go Braves!

Holly Dalman

Coach

I started in gymnastics at a very young age and added weightlifting and track in her early teens. After being a “gym rat” my entire adult life, I was introduced to CrossFit in 2010. Shortly therafter, I completed my first hero WOD, and was hooked. Over a decade later I continue to be impressed by the variety of movements Crossfit offers, building a comprehensive athlete like no other form of training.

I also love seeing how Crossfit and its community tranform people: “Crossfit is a community that accepts us for who we are, while at the same time encouraging us to better ourselves. The people around us believe we are capable of things we don’t see just yet, and that leads to victories we never thought possible.”
